I know I just posted one of these yesterday . . . but I really liked this one too ^_^;;;
Taken from =
Bonhwa, who I don't know personally but watch XD;
◆ Your name?Casey.
◆ If possible, your age?23.
◆ When did you start drawing?My parents claim I have since I was old enough to hold something to draw with (I don't remember myself, so this is probably close to truth if not literal truth). I didn't get serious about it till I was in High School though. So . . . I would have been about fourteen?
◆ Which hand do you use for drawing?Right. I don't have fine enough motor skills in my left.
◆ Which is easier to draw - male or female?I started out drawing women, albeit anatomically incorrect ones, thanks to most of my childhood being obsessed with Lara Croft. Evidently, I've concentrated more on drawing men. Women these days are such foreign territory (ironic, coming from a lesbian).
Oddly enough Lynsey's answer almost works exactly for me lol. Though calling myself a lesbian is simplifying things, and I've never had an obsession with Lara Croft. I started out drawing women, and then concentrated on men so that I didn't draw men who looked more girly than my females! (Though this does still happen sometimes.) This means I saw drastic improvements in drawing male anatomy . . . but still have problems with females sometimes.
◆ Which is easier to draw - long hair or short hair?I find medium length hair easiest to draw really. Really short hair gives me problems in how to make it fall sometimes, long hair is just a bother. But I love drawing long hair all the same.
◆ Is it easier to draw the head facing towards the right or the left?I can draw facing the left, and make myself do so at times, but I tend towards right facing. Oddly enough, sometimes when I flip it horizontal it looks *better* facing left than right. Oi.
◆ Is it easier to draw the side view of the face or the front view?Front probably, the forehead will usually get me on profile (not that I can't fix it, I just have to work at it). I tend to favor 3/4 ish angles, even though I think those are the hardest to draw!
◆ What do you have problems in drawing?I cannot draw animals. At all. And I have problems with backgrounds. Not because I can't draw the stuff, but because I can't think of what *should* be there (does this make it a problem with creativity?). Background composition + me = fail.
Feet are also difficult unless I can get a good model. You can't really use yourself to ref for feet. I've tried.
◆ What do you like to draw?I've found that I like drawing sad people. It's mostly that I like drawing emotions, but I'm not good with angry expressions (should work on that!), and for some reason I don't think that I really do emotive happy pictures. At least, I certainly feel the emotions in my sad or wistful drawings more than the happy ones. That could just be something in myself as well, though.
◆ Are you a traditional artist or a digital artist?I do both! I'm really fond of colored pencils :3 And anything ink.
◆ Where do you start drawing from?The head, but I should also say that I really start drawing (normally) from either a gesture sketch or some other quick sketch to get basic proportion and pose down.
◆ What is your drawing habit that you are aware of?Uh. I draw in what most people would call anime? I draw feminine men? (I'm sorry I have pretty characters D:! I swear I can draw men who look like men!)
◆ Any tips for coloring/shading?Experiment. Find what works for you. If you don't have an idea of how it should be draw from real life and study what other people do. Learn how shadows and highlights work, and how they define objects.
All the technique in the world won't make you good, it's just building blocks. Seriously, even in art classes, in the end it's all about what *works*. And do something that you're pleased with, even if it doesn't make you popular. Your art should be something you can be proud of personally.
[And this applies for general style as well.]
◆ How long does it take to finish a piece of art?Depends on how I'm doing it. It's usually just digital inking I get hung up on. Or I'm a bit ADD with stuff, I tend to get bored and wander off with almost anything I do. So what might take two weeks to do really may only have taken me 10 hours. (Traditional works these days are often faster than digital because I don't like digital inking so much so it takes even longer because I can't keep myself going on it.)
◆ What music do you listen to while you draw?I don't usually listen to music actually. Which is odd, because I feel a deep draw to music. My attachment to music is tied to emotions, so unless I feel something strongly I don't usually feel compelled to listen to music.
That said, I guess I should say: whatever my mood dictates.
◆ How long does it take you to come up with an idea?I don't. Or rarely do. That's why I have nothing spectacular in my gallery. I just start doodling and maybe end up with something I think I can finish. I wish I came up with ideas, good or bad.
◆ Your favorite drawing utensils?Pens. :3 Well and pencils. But I also like to just flat out draw with pens, and especially ballpoints.
◆ Your favorite color/the color that you use a lot?You wouldn't be able to tell, but I really favor desaturated colors/browns. I often have to saturate my works when I'm done because of this tendency. It doesn't really go well with my subject matters XDDD
◆ Your favorite style(s)?Uh . . . I have very high admiration for the Asian aesthetic, which is why I am so inspired by manga artwork. Recently I am more drawn to mangaka that draw on the more realistic side of things, though. My personal favorite is Obata Takeshi. Though I like pretty too e_e
Also, I really like sketches. Quick, gesture-y stuff especially. Uh, most people don't consider that finished art for the most part, however, so you don't get a lot of it. I've really considered commissioning artists for this type of stuff. Just like . . . a sketchbook page or something. XD;
◆ What kind of artist are you aiming for?I'm not sure what this question means exactly? I just aim to be myself, whatever that may happen to be. Of course, I discover new things about myself constantly. So this means that my self-perception is ever evolving, much like I see a mature artist doing in relation to their art. I have no defined answer for this question, whatever it may be aiming at. I go where life and inspiration take me :3
On another note . . . .
